Debra Coltharp: Dedication to your career regardless of criticism

Louisiana State University Horticulturist Debra Coltharp spoke to Louisiana Scholastic Press Association Summer Institute about her job. Her job mainly focuses on cultivating the plants around the college campus which is approximately about 2,000 acres.

Growing up, Coltharp lived on a ranch where her grandfather pushed her to work and make the best of herself everyday.

For college, she attended LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. There she studied horticulture and organic.

Couple of years later, she got a job maintaining LSU campus. Coltharp and her team worked approximately eight hour shifts every day to keep the campus beautiful and flourished as ever.

Her passion toward her career shows her dedication and pride into her work.

“Whatever you find, make sure you’re passionate about it.” Coltharp said

Coltharp believes that people think she’s uneducated because she works in the plants, but she learned not to care what people view of her job. As long as she loved her job, no criticism could ever matter to her.
